Meet Lord Simmy AKA Simmy Max Payne in Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lord Simmy.

Simmy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today? I was born in Dallas, Texas in August 1999, my parents were teenagers when they had me. My father was a hustler who made most of his moves in north Dallas. A couple of years after I was born he caught an armed robbery charge which got him six years in the state penitentiary. Leaving my mother with two kids to raise on her own. She was 19 years old and had to provide for me and my sister on her own.

We moved houses a lot and stayed with a number of relatives throughout the years but we always had new clothes and shoes to wear.

I grew up listening to all genres of music. My family is filled with music lovers both my Hispanic side and my African American side of the family. Growing up, my favorite music group was nirvana. I love alternative rock it’s my favorite genre of music… the cranberries and nirvana are my favorite music groups of all time.

Even though I grew up a music lover, I never once thought I would be making music of my own. Until mid-2016, a new kid from my high school who was originally from Houston dropped a song that went viral around school campus, and I saw the attention he was getting from that song so it made me wanna start making music.

I listened to a lot of rap music in my whole life and I was inspired the most in my early music stage by Kendrick Lamar, Ab Soul, Lil Wayne, Chief Keef, Famous Dex & Ugly God.

I wrote my first song in Spanish class, and I called it dinero. It took me two weeks to finish it… I wanted to record the song but I had no access to a studio and did not know anyone with a studio. I sold chips at school so I could buy a 20$ microphone.

I bought the microphone after a week of hustling chips and went straight to my grandma’s house because my cousins were the only people I knew with a computer. So, I went and downloaded Audacity (a free recording software) and hooked my microphone and just recorded to the best of my ability…

I dropped the song mid-August on SoundCloud under the name of “Savage Simmy” and sent the link out to all my peers. And I got a lot of hate and I got a lot of love. That fall when I returned to school, it was crazy I had random people coming up to me talking about the song. And it made me wanna make more.

I met an engineer at a corner store and he took me under his wing all 2017 and recorded over 50 songs for me and it really helped me with my craft and delivery. In late 2017, I changed my name to Lord Simmy and that’s when I started developing my fan base. Everyone knew who I was at school and at different schools around Dallas.

In October 2017, I met a kid who soon became my best friend. He believed in me and for his birthday he bought a whole studio and gave it to me. Out of pure belief that I would make it big one day.

We set it up in my closet and in my restroom or wherever we could possibly set the equipment up and just created. I had no idea what to do but I just watched a lot of YouTube and became more comfortable throughout time.

2018, I met a producer named money ray. He was unknown and I had a small fan base already so I took him under my wing and we started creating. We locked in and created songs like “Face My Demons”, “Max Payne”, & “ Bulls In 96’.“

My small success basically happened overnight. In late 2018, I had about 230 monthly listeners and by March 2019, I had 15 thousand monthly listeners. My EP “Nightmare On 4700 2“ had a major role to play in my success.

I sit at 18 thousand monthly listener today and in the near future, I will be looking at millions.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story - has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome? There’s a lot of obstacles in anything you do. My first two years of recording, I lived in a two bedroom house with six family members, I slept in the closet on the tile floor. I set up my studio in there and used my situation as motivation to get out of the situation I was in. My mom took care of four kids. It was hard watching her struggle… I’ve had all the kids at school doubt me and tell me I wouldn’t amount to anything. I’ve had relationship problems, drug issues I had to get rid of. I had a lot of obstacles but I kept my head right and stayed focused. I’m still going through obstacles but ide much rather focus on the bigger picture.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of. I’m an artist that is very versatile, I can switch from hardcore trap beats to smooth melodic beats to psychedelic beats… I create my art out of whatever I’m feeling at the moment and I do a pretty good job at it so that’s what will give me longevity and room in this industry. I specialize in feel-good music like turn up songs as the kids will call it. Everyone likes to have time so I like to create things that will make the time worthwhile. I’m most proud of my growth in the rap game and in the music industry as far as my craft and my marketing skills.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on? My proudest moment is when I reached a million streams on apple music and Spotify July 23rd, 2019 ! It was a big moment for me and I’m very thankful to everyone that supported me.
